IC24 INTAC WINS PUSSER'S ROUND TORTOLA RACE
Tuesday, 27 November 2007
Tortola, British Virgin Islands, November 26, 2007 - The 38th Pusser's Round Tortola Race took place on Saturday (November 24) and the smallest boat in the fleet - INTAC, an IC24 - won the racing class. Besting much larger boats in a race which saw it battling big seas and winds gusting in the 20-25 knot range, INTAC won this annual circumnavigation of Tortola after corrected time was calculated.  Second Nature, the Hughes 38 skippered by Bill Bailey, won the cruising class.

INTAC, owned by Mark Plaxton and skippered by 16-year old Alec Anderson, was tenacious as it hung on to the bigger boats that desperately tried to shake them off. "Annoyingly close the whole time," said one competitor.

The last leg of the last race decides the 2007 Nanny Cay Nations Cup
Tuesday, 20 November 2007

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, November 20, 2007 - Team Bitter End Holmberg managed to knock the defending BVI champions from their perch at this weekend's (Nov 17/18) third annual Nanny Cay Nations Cup - but it's hard to imagine how the regatta could have ended any closer. As competitors went into the 20th and final race of the two-day event, two-time winners Team bmobile BVI were two points behind the USVI's Team Bitter End Holmberg. In this nail-biting finale, the BVI team had to win the final race - with the Holmbergs placing fifth (last) - to win the event for the third time in a row. If the BVI placed second and the Holmbergs last, the regatta would end in a tie. The Holmberg team had not placed worse than third the entire regatta.

Third Annual Nanny Cay Nations Cup Takes Place This Weekend
Tuesday, 13 November 2007

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, November 13, 2007 - The third annual Nanny Cay Nations Cup will be taking place off Nanny Cay Marina this weekend (November 17/18).  Robbie Hirst, sailing for the British Virgin Islands, will be defending his two-time title in this hard-fought regatta where the simple requirement for entry is that all crew members carry the same passport.

Sailed in an identical fleet of IC24s, event organisers Racing In Paradise are expecting stiff competition as teams jostle to knock the Hirst powerhouse from their perch. John Holmberg from the USVI has enlisted brother Peter to his team. Peter recently returned to the Virgin Islands after an America's Cup stint with the winning Alinghi team.

However, the defending BVI team isn't leaving anything to chance. Robbie has teamed up with youth sailor Alec Anderson and Colin Rathbun to form a strong BVI team. Alec recently stunned several of the more experienced local IC24 'rockstars' by placing second in the Pete Sheals Memorial Match Race. Colin placed second to the Hirsts in the inaugural Nanny Cay Nations Cup and was a member of the winning Hirst team last year.
